There is nowhere else that I get to meet so many familiar faces and nowhere else where I get to make so many new business relationships and have interesting conversations. That is why I will be on-site for all fi ve exhibition days. On pages 2 and 3, we will already let you know which novelties will be presented at the ACHEMA. In the Indian subsidiary of MACK Valves, we have reorganised the managing direction. We all know the factory is in Pune, previously written as Poona. And there was something else ... Zschalich Managing Director From the 11th to the 15th June 2018, the exhibition grounds in Frankfurt/Main are opening their doors for the ACHEMA, the worlds leading trade fair for the chemi- cal and process industries. It takes place every three years. About 3800 national and international exhibitors present their current products, processes and services. As in the previous years, HEROSE will be represented with an own stand at the trade fair – in Hall 8, where pumps, com- pressors and valves are being exhibited (Stand G23). When extracting the product, the combined or pressure build-up regulator should keep the tank at a pre-set tank pressure. For the pressure build-up function, the HEROSE CombiPressureregulator is also equipped with a pressure reduc- tion/pressure relief function as well as a safety function. Application: All tank vessels for cryogenic liquefi ed gases (operating temperatures from – 196° to + 60° C) Customer beneﬁ t: - Increase in safety and signifi cantly less eff ort for repairs due to less downtimes - Now also suitable for oxygen applications Development engineer Philip Boldt: "An important factor during the develop- ment was the close coordination with our casting supplier" Moreover, the bellows also had to be modiﬁ ed." The Diverter-Plug-Valve allows safety valves to be replaced or maintained, also during operation of the pressure vessel. The valve, a so-called plug valve is used ideally on upright tanks for cryogenic liquefi ed air gases as mainte- nance fi tting for the assembly of safety valves and bursting disks. This combi- nation protects the vessel against an excessive increase of pressure. Application: For upright tanks for the storage of cryogenic liquefi ed gases (operating temperatures from – 196° to + 120°C ). Customer beneﬁ t: - higher volumetric fl ow - compact design, less space require- ment and a low weight - overhauling of the safety valves during running operation - increased safety during maintenance work on the safety valve due to the plug design Development engineer Daniel Scharr: "Despite the small design, the valve permits a high volumetric ﬂ ow. The optimi- sation has been achieved in particular by means of the CFD simulation methodic.“ Until now, the Top-Entry-Valve was available in nominal diameters DN 15 to DN 50. Now the series has been expanded to the nominal diameters of DN 65, DN 80 and DN 100. With a Top- Entry-Valve, the complete top part can be pulled out of the fi tting upwards. Application: Air separation plants and double-walled piping systems with insulation, air gases, vapours and cryogenic gases (operating temperatures from – 196° to + 120° C) Customer beneﬁ t: - During the maintenance of the cone or top section, the insulation is not da- maged as the bolts of the head piece are located outside the insulation. In case of failure of the CombiPressure- Regulator or check unit, the valve permits a safe and quick repair on the regulator without having to interrupt the process and take the system out of operation. Application: The valve is a supplement for all HEROSE pressure build-up regulators and is especially suitable for the use of air gases, vapours and cryogenic gases and their gas mixtures in cryogenic tank facilities (cold converter) at tempera- tures from – 196° to +60° C. Portraits With dry ice high up above the clouds ASCO Kohlensäure AG is a specialist concerning the topic dry ice – with safety valves from HEROSE 2 0 n a w a t n o t i b a i l o t o F them, it would almost be impossible for the cabin crew to serve passengers during the flight. In doing so, the trol- leys are one thing in particular – they are practical: they roll conveniently through the narrow aisles and with their drawers and pull-outs, they are a mobile storage compartment and flexible coun- ter at the same time. In the on-board kitchen, they fit standardised in the kitchen cell and when equipped with dry ice, they even stay as cold as a fridge for a few hours. Up to ten hours In airline catering, the requirements on the side of the user are high as the legally required legislation on foodstuffs demand a protected atmosphere for the storage and delivery of food and beverages. Coo- ling the foodstuffs with CO2 is the ideal prerequisite for a germ-free environment. They are an essential aid on-board of an aircraft: service trolleys. Without Help until the doctor arrives Enrico Braun is one of the safety officers at HEROSE Accidents cannot be ruled out, even in the most exemplary companies. For this reason, the legislator specifies that first- aiders must be in every company – at HEROSE, at least 10 % of the workforce. "At our company, we even have 33 first- aiders and are therefore well situated", said Enrico Braun, one of the safety offi- cers at HEROSE, and who is responsible for the organisation of the first aid. Help until the doctor arrives – that is, casually spoken, the task of the first- aiders. They must, amongst others, be able to make an emergency call, cordon off the scene of the accident, carry out wound care or measures for keeping the patient warm and puting them in the re covery position. Enrico Braun: "The- se are all things that you get to learn in a completely normal first aid course." The doctor on call is Ms Dr Gabriele Hofmann from Bad Oldesloe. She is a so-called "passage doctor", a medical doctor that has been especially approved for assistance of work-related accidents and has been assigned to HEROSE by the State Association of the German Social Accident Insurance. 14 Plaster boxes The main task of the safety officer is to identify risks of accidents at an early stage, and to authorise their elimination. This is naturally always in agreement with the person responsible for the depart- ment. Next to the organisation of further education of the first-aiders – these have to take place every two years for one day – Mr. Braun also monitors the plaster boxes and the first aid boxes at regular intervals that are distributed over the entire com- pany. These contain, e. g. plasters, cool packs and bandages, similar to a first aid kit in a car. Enrico Braun: "I check if the boxes are complete and if the use by date has expired." Furthermore he manages the accident log book that is prescribed for every company and works close with a The cooled foodstuffs are stored at 4° to 6° C using dry ice and thus guarantee an optimum temperature for up to ten hours. Dry ice is manufactured from liquid car- bon dioxide and has a temperature of approx. – 79° C. In a dry ice production machine, the liquid CO2 is relieved under controlled conditions. o t o F - c n o r t e y e i l i Dry ice snow is produced by this phy- sical process. Then, depending on the machine type, this snow is pressed to dry ice pellets, blocks or disks. Whereas the dry ice blocks and disks are mainly used for cooling purposes – at airlines, amongst others – the round, hard and millimetre large dry ice pellets are used as abrasives in dry ice cleaning. Reputable manufacturer of dry ice is ASCO KOHLENSÄURE AG. The com- pany uses HEROSE cryogenic safety, globe and gate valves. Last but not least, the CO2 storage with ASCO has a high n quality and is reliable. Safety officer Braun the external specialists for workplace sa- fety that come from the B. A. D. (Health care and safety technology) from Lübeck once a week. Marco Harz: the hobby railway enthusiast Marco Harz has fun in crafting and collects rare model trains, such as the Hogwarts-Express from the Harry-Potter films The model railway of Marco Harz. Work is always present: at the bottom left, a tank wagon from Air Liquide Without further ado, Marco Harz has converted the skewer into a coupling aid. With a concentrated look, he hangs on the last carriage of the legendary Rhein- gold Express and it can start with its trip over the plywood panel. In the past, the model railway enthusiast used a simple transformer controller to get the trains going, today, a digital control unit trans- fers the commands. In contrast to the good old transformer that could only go fast or slow, a digital jack of all trades is a marvel. Marco Harz: "For example, I can program the sequences so that several trains can travel at the same time, and many other functions separately from each other. Small and wonderful things that are a lot of fun." Small headlights suddenly light up on the Rheingold, smoke pours out of the chimney of the steam train and the sirens of the fire engines that are stan- ding in front of the roof truss of a just burned down model house, can also be switched from the digital control unit. Marco Harz, incoming goods ma- nager at HEROSE is a model railway enthusiast as they should be. He was hooked on to it since he was a child, as his father gave him a carpet railway as a present. "It was only put together for Christmas and then drove around the Christmas tree without stopping." valvescommunity 2/ 2018 HEROSE GMBH At some point he forgot about it – "until I started it up again ten years ago." The desire for crafting And he was doing it right this time. In the cellar of his terraced house in Bad Oldesloe, a whole room has long been reserved for Marco´s hobby. But not all of the trains that Marco Harz owns are ready to drive, these are presented in showcases. Real treasures, such as the Hogwarts-Express from the Harry Potter films. Its an expensive hobby. But Marco Harz has found a way to finance this: "I pay regular visits to model vehicle collectors' fairs", he said, "I buy broken locomoti- ves and trains, repair them and sell them again." It is the desire for crafting, the joy of filigree that characterises real model railway enthusiasts anyway. And Marco Harz also says: "A real model railway will never be finished." Marco Harz has been working at HEROSE since 2001. Being the head of the incoming goods department, with his eleven employees, he is responsible for everything that reaches the compa- ny from the suppliers – from ball point pens to raw material for the valves that weight tons. The department is respon- sible that everything waits at the right place for further processing - pretty chal- lenging with a total quantity of articles that go way beyond a million. For exam- ple, 250,000 springs, 150,000 unfinished cast parts, 150 tons bar material. Due to the tremendous growth of HEROSE, storage space is becoming increasingly scarce. Marco Harz: "That is a daily challen- ge." Tasks of his department still include the waste management at HEROSE and they also have the responsibility for the two degreasing plants in the company. In the nineteen eighties, the disciples with their red clothing were a part of the street scenery in the relevant areas of the cities. The red cutters were not wacky pilgrims, there were frequently success- ful business persons – a combination that strengthened interest for the cult even more. In 1985 Bhagwan was expelled from the USA due to problems with the im- migration authorities. After returning to India following a world trip, he renamed himself in Osho. He passed away on 19th January 1990. Oshos community, a 15 hectare large park in Pune, is called „Osho International Meditation Resort“ today and presents itself as a spiritual service provider for wealthy internati- onal customers. Here one meets soft- ware engineers from Bangalore, mathe- maticians from Cambridge, accountants from Cologne, actors from Los Angeles. About 20,000 people visit here every year. n The Indian production location of the val- ve manufacturer MACK belonging to the HEROSE Group is Pune, a lively city in the West Indian State of Maharashtra. Many elders know the metropolis with about four million residents under the former spelling Poona. In the nineteen seven- ties, the controversial cult leader Bhag- wan Shree Rajneesh founded a place of free love and total therapy. Thousands made a pilgrimage there, many Germans amongst them. Bhagwan disciples, called Sannyasins, wore the Mala around their necks – a necklace with the picture of their master on it. The fact that they only wore orange or red clothing, the colours of the sunrise, was a sign. They wanted to create a new human being, free from Western performance thinking and out- dated structures. The hustle and bustle in Poona took an end in 1981: Bhagwan was expelled from India for alleged tax reasons and settled with his community in the US Federal State Oregonx. The Sannyasins poun- ded a new city out of the ground here: restaurants, a Rajneeshpuram dam, school, shopping centre, including public utilities. Their own airfield with airlineand 85 large-capacity buses en- sured for mobility, a publishing house and printing company for distributing the "Rajneesh Times“. Boutiques, an amuse- ment arcade and a travel agency made the Guru Wonderland perfect. 20,000 visitors annually In particular, for the Guru himself. Whereas the Sannyasins still had to get along with the most necessary, their greatest role model surrounded himself with luxury. He decorated himself with expensive watches and glittering robes. His Rolls Royce fleet of 93 vehicles was legendary. The decadence of the master and the large project Rajneeshpuram consumed millions. The Sannyasins suc- cessfully operated book stores, jewellery shops and bakeries throughout the world. Their companies traded with art, patent windows and even with compost worms. PI approval: the customer saves time and money How to contact us HEROSE GMBH ARMATUREN UND METALLE Precise guidelines apply for the trans- portation of dangerous goods on the road. Since being issued in 2015, the referenced set of rules (ADR) in the EU Directive 2010/35/EU contains the har- monised standards DIN EN 1626 and DIN EN 13648 for valves. For this purpose, HEROSE had to completely re-apply and certify the EC type approval for their sa- fety valves and fittings according to ADR/ RID in accordance with TPED (π-marking). The preparation of a new auditing/cer- tification for monitoring the production and in-house testing service (IS) came on top of that. This approval and monitoring was carried out according to the process for the conformity assessment and the recurring tests according to chapter 1.8.7 to 1.8.7.7 of the ADR/RID 2015. The updated approval of the HEROSE products has now been completed. This means that next to their containers, the certification of the vessel manufacturer no longer needs to additionally certify HEROSE valves. It is sufficient to present the do- cuments for the final acceptance. This saves time and costs at the customer. A tag plate with PI marking Delivery bottleneck feared for LNG Over the coming years, Shell is expecting an increasing demand for liquefied natu- ral gas (LNG). In the middle of the 20´s, delivery bottlenecks will occur if steps for new production facilities are not taken soon as mentioned in the LNG forecast 2018 of the group. The trade with LNG has grown from 100 million tons in 2000 to almost 300 million tons last year. The largest import countries are Japan, China and South Korea, but interest in liquefied gas is also growing in Europe. Girls´ & Boys´ Day 2018 At the end of April during this years Girls´ & Boys´ Day, two girls and five boys from eleven to thirteen years of age experienced an interesting day in different departments of HEROSE. The framework programme for the scholars organised by the human resources department began with a presentation of the company, that was presented by the two apprentices Tino Fibelkorn and Enes Serbest. Under the supervision of Kai Gruber, then a tour was taken through the entire production. The framework programme ended with a Girls, Boys and the organisers (at the back) Extension of the test bench capacity In April, HEROSE had put a new test bench into operation for testing the in- ner and outer leak tightness in the valve assembly. The test bench is characterised by the newest technology and particular operator convenience. The design inclu- ding the test basin and a manual control for the progressive pressure setting is particularly compact. Tests are primarily carried out on HEROSE trailer valves with pneumatic actuators and all possible connection variants.
